A Day In the Life of an A2E Intern

Hello all! My name is Gwenna Singer, and I am currently a Junior attending Temple University. Because of my major in Tourism and Hospitality Management, I began an internship with A2E Communications Group to broaden my knowledge and skillset in the events management industry. My typical day includes supporting our events team with live and virtual event production, including national sales meetings and peer-to-peer educational engagements.

I often meet with my colleagues, Anna, the Meetings & Events Director, and Marie, our Senior Director of Meeting Services, to review daily tasks and KPIs for the week. Many of these tasks include:

  • Assisting with dinner meetings across the country

  • Ordering signage

  • Communicating with printers

  • Tracking dinner meeting attendance rates

  • Ensuring we have a record of which healthcare practitioners (HCP)
and sales representatives attended our dinner meetings

As an intern at A2E, I frequently assist with sourcing hotel and venue properties for small to large events nationwide. After gathering the initial proposal responses, I compile all the information into a venue comparison document, including details such as sleeping room rate, meeting room space, F&B minimums, etc.

Typically, the first step in sourcing a venue property includes determining if the property is a good fit for the client’s objectives and overall meeting needs. Though every day is something exciting and new, one of the best parts of my internship, so far, was having the opportunity to source a property in New York City for an upcoming internal meeting for the A2E team.

I also support speaker programs and advisory board meetings. Recently, I had the opportunity to assist and attend an onsite dinner meeting in Brooklyn, NY, where I had a hands-on experience of the onsite execution. It’s incredible to see the program come to life after weeks of hard work.

Some of my additional day-to-day tasks include meeting material layouts, developing industry event calendars, and securing travel arrangements for client events.  I work extensively with my colleagues and external industry professionals to ensure a successful program.

I advise anyone looking to intern in the events industry to be open to new experiences! When I first chose Tourism and Hospitality as a major, I never imagined that I would be working for and gaining experience through a pharmaceutical event and marketing agency, as this was nowhere near my radar. I always considered events solely for entertainment purposes, but in these few short months working with A2E, I have learned so much about what it takes to put together a successful event behind the scenes. My advice to incoming interns is to be open to new experiences because you never know what fits you until you try it. You may find a new passion that sparks something inside of you!
